Viele Köche müssen den Brei doch nicht immer verderben: Die phänomenale Serie „The Bear“ - über deren Kategorisierung als Comedyserie man natürlich vortrefflich streiten kann - hat vergangene Nacht bei den 75th Primetime Emmy Awards mit ihrer ersten Staffel ausnahmslos alle Kategorien gewonnen, in denen die Produktion des US-Kabelsenders FX (die in Deutschland bei Disney+ zu sehen ist) nominiert war und konnte am Ende, wie auch „Succession“ (HBO), sechs Emmys aufs eigene Konto verbuchen.
Doch dem Epos um Macht und Medien blieb der Home-Run verwehrt, weil verdienterweise Jennifer Coolidge für ihre Nebenrolle der Tanya in „The White Lotus“ (HBO) ausgezeichnet wurde - und „Succession“ damit alle bis auf einen möglichen Emmy abräumte. Ein wahrlich nur bedingt schweres Schicksal, welches auch „Beef“ teilt - und sich natürlich trotzdem als großer Abräumer fühlen darf, denn mit insgesamt fünf Auszeichnungen in der vergangenen Nacht wurde die Netflix-Serie ihrer Favoritenrolle in den Limited Series-Kategorien gerecht.
Zwei Emmys gingen an „Last Week Tonight with John Oliver“, was HBO im Network-Ranking der großen Emmy-Nacht im Peacock Theater am Ende mit insgesamt neun Auszeichnungen den ersten Platz einbrachte. FX kommt allein durch „The Bear“ auf den zweiten Platz, den man sich mit Netflix teilt, die ebenso auf sechs Emmys in der TV-Gala kommen. Neben „Beef“ gab es noch einen Emmy für Niecy Nash-Betts und ihre Nebenrolle in „Dahmer“. Bemerkenswerte Konzentration: Neben HBO, FX und Netflix konnte kein anderer Streamer oder Sender mehr als einen Emmy gewinnen in der vergangenen Nacht.
Es waren in mehrfacher Hinsicht die Emmys der Zeitlosigkeit - nicht nur aufgrund des Jubiläums und einer immer wieder thematisierten Zeitreise in 75 Jahre Primetime Emmys und damit US-TV-Geschichte. Auch die durch den Doppelstreik in Hollywood auf Januar verschobene Verleihung sorgte für eine gewisse Zeitlosigkeit der Auszeichnungen: Wo die Golden Globes vor einer Woche schon die zweite Staffel von „The Bear“ berücksichtigten, ging es bei den Emmys noch um die erste. Und Trevor Noah gab die „Daily Show“ von Comedy Central schon im Dezember 2022 ab - was der Freude über den späten Emmy in der Nacht allerdings keinen Abbruch tat.
Gejubelt hat auch RuPaul, inzwischen auch persönlich meistausgezeichneter Host der amerikanischen TV-Geschichte, über den fünften Emmy für sein „Drag Race“ in der Kategorie Reality Competition. Doch ein Abend voller Gewinnerinnen und Gewinner bedeutet auch: Weitaus mehr gingen leer aus. Bemerkenswert ist das besonders bei einigen im Vorfeld mit entsprechend vielen Nominierungen hochdekorierten Favoriten.
So konnte die HBO-Endzeitserie „The Last of Us“ zwar bei den vorgelagerten Creative Arts Emmys abräumen, ging aber vergangene Nacht im Peacock Theater in Downtown Los Angeles völlig leer aus. Auch „Ted Lasso“ von AppleTV+ erhielt bei der großen TV-Gala diesmal keine einzige Trophäe und „The White Lotus“ musste sich im HBO-internen Duell eben allzu oft „Succession“ geschlagen geben.
