In insgesamt 124 Kategorien werden in diesem Jahr Emmys vergeben. Und während die große Gala erst vom 15. auf den 16. September deutscher Zeit ansteht, werden an diesem Wochenende bereits die Creative Arts Emmys vergeben. Sie stehen für den Löwenanteil der Nominierten, insgesamt 99 Gewinnerinnen und Gewinner stehen bereits vor der Gala-Preisverleihung fest. Am Samstag wurden im Peacock Theater in Los Angeles die ersten Preise verliehen, im Mittelpunkt standen dort non-fiktionale Produktionen.
Großer Gewinner der ersten Emmy-Nacht ist "Saturday Night Live" (NBC), das sechs Preise mit nach Hause nehmen konnte, unter anderem in der Kategorie Outstanding Directing For A Variety Series. Dass an diesem Wochenende 99 Preise vergeben werden, zeigt schon sehr gut, wie stark die verschiedenen Kategorien ausdifferenziert ist. "SNL" nahm dann auch Preise mit nach Hause für das beste Hairstyling und das beste MakeUp.
"SNL" feiert im kommenden Jahr 50-jähriges Bestehen und hat damit nun schon in seiner Geschichte 90 Emmys gewonnen. Jeweils vier Auszeichnungen gingen am Samstag an Ron Howard’s "Jim Henson: Idea Man" (Disney+), "The Oscars" (ABC) und Netflix’ Animationsserie "Blue Eye Samurai".
Neben "Saturday Night Live" hat auch ein anderes sehr lang laufendes TV-Format in der ersten Nacht der Creative Arts Emmys abgeräumt. "Jeopardy!" wurde als beste Gameshow ausgezeichnet, als bester Host wurde außerdem Pat Sajak ("Wheel of Fortune") geehrt. Für Sajak ist es eine Art Abschiedsgeschenk: Er erhält den Emmy nur wenige Tage bevor Ryan Seacrest seinen Job übernehmen wird.
Zu einem Ende einer Siegesserie ist es derweil in der Kategorie Outstanding Host For A Reality Or Reality Competition Program gekommen. Hier war RuPaul acht Jahre lang in Folge siegreich - und auch 2024 war er nominiert. Gewonnen hat dieses Mal aber Alan Cumming für seine Moderation der US-Version von "Die Verräter" ("The Traitors", Peacock). Als beste Dokumentation wurde die Netflix-Produktion "Beckham" ausgezeichnet.
Die meisten Nominierungen bei der diesjährigen Emmy-Verleihung haben "Shōgun" (25), "The Bear" (23) sowie "Only Murders in the Building" (21) erhalten. Wegen des Fokus auf Non-Fiktionales standen sie am Samstag noch nicht im Mittelpunkt, auch wenn "Shōgun" einen Preis für das Making Of bekommen hat (Outstanding Short Form Non-Fiction or Reality Series). Ob sich die großen Favoriten letztlich durchsetzen können, ist nach dem ersten Emmy-Abend aber noch unklar. Mehr Sicherheit dürfte es nach dem zweiten Abend der Creative Arts Emmys geben, dann stehen nämlich die fiktionalen Produktionen im Fokus.
