Zwar ohne den großen roten Teppich, nur mit wenigen ausgesuchten Medien vor Ort und mit einem neuen Setting im Microsoft Theater kehrten die Creative Arts Emmys am Samstagabend in Downtown Los Angeles zu einer neuen Normalität zurück, nachdem die Pandemie in den letzten beiden Jahren einer regulären Verleihung einen Strich durch die Rechnung gemacht hatte. Zum Auftakt standen fast ausschließlich non-fiktionale Gewerke sowie auch einige Werkskategorien auf dem Programm.
Netflix sowie HBO (zusammen mit HBO Max) kommen auf jeweils acht Emmys, gefolgt von Disney+ mit fünf Auszeichnungen vor NBC, CBS und Prime Video mit je fünf Trophäen. Ein Überraschungserfolg für Netflix sind gleich Emmys für die US-Version der australischen Datingshow „Love on the spectrum“ mit Kandidatinnen und Kandidaten aus dem Autismus-Spektrum. Die Netflix-Reality gewann auch die Werkskategorie Outstanding Unstructured Reality. Die beste Animationsserie kommt nach Ansicht der Mitglieder der Television Academy auch von Netflix und heißt „Arcane“ (zwei Emmys ingesamt).
Bei HBO bzw. HBO Max sind es u.a. zwei Emmys für „Last Week Tonight“ und „A Black Lady Sketch Show“ (die NBCs „Saturday Night Live“ einheizt), bei Prime Video wiederum jubelt man über je zwei Auszeichnungen für „Lizzo’s Watch Out for the big grrls“ sowie die Amy Poehler Dokumentation „Lucy and Desi“ über die Kultserie „I love Lucy“. NBC kann sich bei der Halftime-Show des Superbowls bedanken, die dem Network drei seiner bisher gesammelten Emmys beschert.
Als Erzähler der Netflix-Reihe „Our Great National Parks“ hat auch Ex-US-Präsident Barack Obama einen Emmy gewonnen. Der verstorbene Chadwick Boseman wurde posthum für seine schon 2020 geleistete Voice-Over-Performance für Disney+s „What if…“ ausgezeichnet. Seine Witwe nahm den Emmy entgegen genommen. Und sonst? RuPaul holte sich auch dieses Jahr bereits den Emmy für die beste Moderation eines Reality- oder Competition-Programms. Bei der TV-Gala könnte dann noch erneut die Auszeichnung fürs Format hinzu kommen.
Schon jetzt bei den ersten Creative Arts Emmys wurde die Kategorie Outstanding Structured Reality Program vergeben - und „Queer Eye“ (Netflix) räumte zum inzwischen fünften Mal ab. Am Sonntagabend Ortszeit werden in Los Angeles nun noch die Gewerke der fiktionalen Kategorien geehrt, bevor in der Nacht zu Dienstag, dem 13. September, dann die große TV-Gala mit den sogenannte Königskategorien folgt. Wer aber kommende Nacht nicht ordentlich vorlegt, braucht sich für die große Show wenig Hoffnungen auf Aufholjagd machen.
